Summer Program Counselor

The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County in Brevard, NC is hiring Full and Part-time Summer Program Counselors. The Boys and Girls Club 8 week summer program happens from June 24 - August 16 2024 in the beautiful mountains of WNC, specifically in the Brevard and Rosman area. The summer program operates Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Summer Program Counselors that work 35 hours a week will receive an additional $100 per week.

Summer Program Counselors will spend their day engaging with youth during the planned activities which include, pool supervision, leading hiking trips, arts and crafts activities, playground supervision, and many other activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide a safe environment for youth.
• Exhibit strong leadership skills and utilize them when leading groups of youth in various programs and activities.
• Operate all programs and activities within the policies, procedures and operational hours established by the Club Policy manual.

Qualifications & Skills

• High School diploma or equivalency required. Some college experience or secondary education experience is preferred.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
• Valid State Driver’s License.
• Ability to interact with and supervise youth activities
• Ability to work as a team of staff to bring about the best possible experience for our members
• Knowledge of the Club’s mission, programs, and resources.
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Other responsibilities as determined by Assistant Executive Director and Operations Director.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements - Must have the ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of four hours each day and complete other essential functions of the position and other duties as assigned. Necessary mental requirements include concentration and focus on fulfilling the mission of The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County. The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club will require all applicants for employment to be tested for the presence of drugs and/or alcohol as part of this organization's drug free workplace policy prohibiting drug or alcohol use.

Pay: $11.00 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
